Superior Engineering Offroad Pro - Lift Kits Designed For Drive Away Posted By: Superior Engineering Published: 20/08/2024
Times Read: 728 Comments: 0 When it comes to fitting a 4X4 lift kit for off-road use, there are a fair few hurdles to overcome. The first is actually bolting everything up and getting it all working properly. Easier said than done with things like extended brake lines; caster correction; speedo correction for larger tyres etc. etc. all needing to be taken into account.
Then you have the legality side of things. It’s not easy to get 35in rubber and a 4in lift signed off by local signatories these days, and the long arm of the law has a hand holding a pen at the end of it, and it loves writing tickets for “dangerously modified” 4WDs.
But what if you could do away with all of those headaches? What if you could get the entire process done in one hit and have everything fitted, signed off and you drive away in your completely road-legal 4in-lifted `Cruiser on 35s?
With Superior Engineering’s latest Offroad Pro Kits, that’s exactly what’s on the table. New for Gen1 (`07–`16) and Gen 3 (`22 onwards) LC79s the Offroad Pro Kit provides 100mm (4in) of increased clearance under your Workmate or GXL’s guards as well as all of the little bits and pieces needed to install a lift kit properly. Oh, and they’re fully engineered and road legal (for folks in Queensland) on 35in tyres for already-registered vehicles too.
Rear End Upgrades
Starting out the back, the leaf-sprung rear end has a range of spring options to suit the off-road exploring you’ll be doing and loads you’re expecting to carry. All the leaf spring hardware comes with polyurethane bushes and greaseable fixed pins for optimal reliability and easy serviceability.
For those chasing maximum strength, billet U-bolt plates and a diff-locker actuator guard are available as options too.
Front End Upgrades
The front end is sent skyward thanks to Aussie-made heavy duty coil springs, while the standard inclusion shocks are the Superior Engineering Nitro gas shocks, however, these can be upgraded to the Superior Engineering 2.0 or 2.5 remote-reservoir units or the Superior Engineering ECDS shocks. The remote reservoir mounting kits, specific to the LC79s, come as standard front and rear.
The upgraded adjustable 32mm high-tensile steel Panhard rod comes in the lift kit to keep the front diff in place while both steering arms are also beefed up thanks to the comp-spec solid draglink and tie-rod (which, along with the Panhard, are covered by a lifetime warranty against bending). You can either fit up a Nitro steering dampener or opt to go for the 2.0” internal bore IFP dampener if you’re feeling sporty.
Finally, you can bolt in the daily-driver-friendly Superior Engineering drop radius arms which come with the kit as standard, or if you’re chasing more articulation off-road you can go for the weekend warrior-spec Superflex arms; or if you’re out every weekend taking the hardest possible lines and pushing the limits of gravity, the Hyperflex arms are calling your name.
The Fiddly Bits
When fitting any 4X4 lift kit, it’s the little things that take the most time, usually because you didn’t know they needed to be fitted up in the first place. You don’t need to worry with the Ofrroad Pro Kit though, because everything is included.
Extended brake lines? Yep, they’re in there. Bumpstop extensions? Uh-huh, them too. What about swaybar extensions for the front? You’ll never believe this, but they’re in the box as well. In fact, this lift kit is so comprehensive that it includes a digital speedo correction module to allow for your increase in tyre size and they carry a range of brake upgrades to give you the confidence to bring your big 35s to a halt without a worry.
Hell, they even throw in mudflaps and mounting hardware; wheel arch extensions and some shiny Offroad Pro chrome guard decals for all of the cool points.
When they say everything is included, they mean EVERYTHING.
Optional Extras
As you may have already figured out for yourself, the list of optional extras with this lift kit is longer than your arm. From shocks to brakes to suspension arms, the list is extensive. One thing that is worth considering, however, is getting a GVM upgrade done at the same time. This increases your Gross Vehicle Mass to 4200kg while retaining the braked tow rating of 3500kg and Gross Combined Mass of 6900kg.
The GVM kit includes a track-corrected Chromoly Diamond Diff housing, heavy duty springs at either end, chassis bracing, upgraded brakes and a beefier tie-rod. Fitting the kit at the same time as the Offroad Pro Kit will have you ready to tow or tour on 35in rubber with a 4in lift with total road-compliance and full legality, even if your LC79 has already been registered.
Availability
The Offroad Pro Kits are available for Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series Dual-Cab Workmate and GXLs built from 2007-2016 and 2022 onwards (Gen 1 to Gen 3). This kit is only intended for Queensland-registered LC79s.
