Hydraulic Bump Stop Kits

MICHAEL HAYES EXPLAINS WHY BUMP STOPS PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN PROTECTING YOUR 4WD. SEE WHY SUPERIOR ENGINEERING HAVE CREATED THESE HYDRAULIC BUMP STOPS FOR AUSSIE 4WDERS.

Bang! If that sort of sound is coming from your suspension at full compression, it means you probably need a reminder on the value of bump stops. While the most common types of bump stops found on production vehicles are made of rubber or urethane, they don't often feature enough length or void area to adequately dampen impacts.

Hydraulic bump stops

(often called air bumps) are a great solution for vehicles that experience suspension bottoming at high speeds or when heavily loaded and are chasing the ultimate in bumpstop technology.

These bumpstop units consist of a short stroke pressurised emulsion shock that is velocity sensitive. This allows the bump to effectively dampen, or slow, the suspension movement through the final few inches of travel.

As the suspension reaches maximum compression,

This secondary 'air-shock' progressively increases damping resistance for increased impact control. As a result, the vehicle and occupants are protected from high stress loads. A suspension using air bumps can often run a softer spring rate so the ride is smoother under normal driving conditions, allowing the air bumps to provide a progressive end of travel force to supplement the main spring rate.

Superior Engineering

Has once again come up with revolutionary new bump stop kits for Nissan Patrol owners (Patent - 201516906). The kits are available for both front and rear of the mighty Patrols and come in a partial bolt-in setup for the front, with minimal welding required to allow for the wide variety of spring and suspension combinations.

The bump stops in the kit are the latest adjustable threaded body style, which allow the user to finely adjust the mounting height. By moving the bump higher or lower in the vehicle, you can precisely set the point at which you want the dampening to occur. This works hand in hand with the fully rebuildable and tuneable bump stops to help soak up the biggest of bumps!

Loaded-up for remote touring

Or just pounding down rutted tracks, the rear of the vehicle can start to really take a beating and this is where it's crucial to have the bump stops working their best.

For maximum strength and durability, the rear bump stop kit is designed to be used in conjunction with the Superior Engineering rear tower braces. A full width brace is incorporated for the Patrol Utes to aid fitment and reinforce the coil towers. The rear bumpstop kit features the same, threaded body adjustable bump stops as the front kit allowing users to get the perfect ride and bump setting. The bump stop assemblies fit neatly inside the springs and the adjuster housing acts as a location cone for those running long travel shock.

The rear setup is almost entirely bolt-in, with welding of the lower striker pads being the preferred option for those who may be using these for extreme 4WDing. The threaded body of the bump stop allows the height to be adjusted to suit not only a variety of lift heights but for setting the contact point when the vehicle is loaded or a change in spring rate. The nitrogen pressure and internal shim stacks can also be adjusted to suit all styles of driving and terrain.
