2 POST VEHICLE HOIST
DO NOT use this machine unless a supervisor has instructed you in its safe use and operation.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times in work areas. | Long or loose hair must be tied back and contained. | ||
Protective, steel-toed work boots must be worn. | Close fitting, protective clothing or a workshop apron is encouraged. | ||
DO NOT use hoist if faulty. | Do not stand or ride on hoist. |
PRE-OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS
- The hoist must not be operated unless it has a current certificate of inspection.
- Ensure the work area is clean, tidy and free of obstructions prior to operation to eliminate the risk of slips and trip hazards, i.e. oil, parts, tools, hoses, etc.
- Check that the structure has no anomalies that may indicate damage or deterioration.
- Ensure the vehicle hoist has operating and maintenance instructions permanently located and clearly visible.
- Check pick-up pads and adaptors condition to ensure they are clean, the material and structure is in good condition and not excessively worn or otherwise damaged.
- Operating controls should be tested by activating through the full range of operation.
- The lifting arm locks, load hold and safety mechanisms of the hoist must be checked for operation.
- Accessories should undergo the same inspection as for a hoist.
- Ensure all covers are fitted, secure and functional. Do not operate if covers are missing or faulty.
- Check the capacity of the hoist compared to the weight of the vehicle. If vehicle is too heavy, do not proceed.
- Identify vehicle’s correct lifting points.
OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS
- Ensure all four pick-up pads contact the correct lifting points of the vehicle.
- Vehicle’s centre of gravity must be within the area between pick-up pads and as close to hoist posts as possible.
- Ensure vehicle is securely balanced on hoist at low height before working under the hoist/vehicle.
- Only one person shall operate the hoist at a time.
- Load must be locked except when raising or lowering.
- Ensure the area is clear of personnel and equipment before and during operation.
HOUSEKEEPING
- Ensure the area is clear of personnel and equipment
- Lower hoist completely to the ground and move lifting arms away from path of the vehicle.

- Hair/clothing getting caught in parts
- Live electrical conductors
- Trapping hazards
- Trip hazards
- Crushing hazards
- Fluids under high pressure
